Tearing up the floors

Now that my deck and shed are mostly done (as if they'll ever be completely done) it was time to take my tools and head inside. Today, I spent the morning moving the furniture out of the dining room, rolling off a vast expanse of tacky linoleum (I can use it again in the kitchen area at my cabin in Nova Scotia) and preparing to remove the chipboard underneath.

Then I went and picked up a buddy's dad, who is visiting from overseas for several weeks and had offered to help, and after a quick stop at the Beer Store we went at it like Billy-o all afternoon. At the floor I mean, not at the beer or at each other. Turned out my uncle, who owned the house before me, had shimmed the floor like crazy beneath the chipboard, (although it was still pretty crooked) so tomorrow I've got to peel off the shims, but right now all the chipboard is off and the floor underneath looks as good or better than the living room. It really made a difference having a helping hand and I think my helper enjoyed himself as well. "A man is first of all a useful man."

Meanwhile, the chimney turns out to be covered with about 1/4 inch of plaster, in very good shape applied directly to the brick. Looks okay, but not as good as it will look when it's gone. Heh heh. I'll be taking a few chips off the old block there. Enough construction... off to the Now Lounge to play some tunes. Same difference.
