Nostalgia for the present
This long cool summer drew to a close in the most beautiful way at the Shelter Valley Festival.
I can't easily describe what happened to me as a performer and as a guest on this weekend. I know that I went places on stage, and as a listener, that I had never gone before. I know I allowed the boundaries between mind, body, spirit and emotion to dissolve. I know that music was only part of the story.
There was a profound sense in Shelter Valley that if you plan a community event properly, Community itself will grow there. Watching the children's parade, sampling the organic corn, staring into the campfire, sharing the songs and the stories, I felt an unusual feeling I can best describe as "nostalgia for the present."
I yearned to be just where I was.
