The Fox and the Hound
You stood at the boardroom table
We gathered round
You sketched out some far-fetched fable
A tall tale of a fox and a hound
You said that the hound was eager
You said that the fox was sly
But the fox’s resources were meager
The hound was gonna sniff him out bye and bye
The sea of our empty faces
The ticking of ten thousand clocks
The sound of the hound being put through his paces
The hot breath of the famished fox
The trail of the unseen airplane
The white streak in a cloudless sky
The fox holed up inside his lair again
The dull glare in the hound dog’s eye
Your fist falls like a heavy hammer
The fur flies and the building rocks
Hear the whisper, hear the stammer
Who’s the h-hound, who’s the f-fox?
You declared that the game was over
You said that the good guys won
But that sneaky fox was seen rolling in the clover
And now there’s a hungry hound on the run…
Oww, owww, awoooo!
Owwoooooooo……
Ruff ruff ruff ruff ruff ruff…….
I was going over some of my Remembrance Day material on November 11, 09, and realized I hadn't played this song in years.
Too bad. It doesn't fit my style anywhere, but I always thought it was a nicely veiled peace of writing, vaguely referring to the corporate doublespeak that surrounded Afghanistan and Iraq in 2002.
