That Light
Last night I was cycling across Toronto to Hugh's Room to hear Dala and The Undesirables, and my route took me through The Annex, a beautiful well-treed neighbourhood that's home to a lot of U of T student residences.
I was cycling by one of the many stately frat houses in the early dark, and a group of guys were out on the porch drinking and having a good time. One of them spotted me from a ways away - presumably because of my bike light - and hollered out "Heyyy!" in a friendly way. It was pretty spontaneous, and quite genuine I thought. I responded in kind: "Rock on dude." As I zipped past the porch and out of earshot I heard his parting words resound in my ears "Don't let that light of yours go out!"
I've given up trying to explain or understand how these things happen to me, or to anyone. But they do, and I'm glad.
Good advice is good advice. I was going to say, 'regardless of the source', but what I mean to say is, 'it all comes from the same source.' The same source as the light, I would imagine. I'll do my best to keep it shining.

Your post reminds me of a song that Peter, Paul and Mary used to sing around christmastime called "Light One Candle". Indeed an inspiring sentiment. :)
