Whirling Around The Sun

I planted last year's tulips
When the frost was on the trees
And I can't wait to see them up
And waving in the breeze
I'll be out there weeding,
I'll be down upon my knees
As the world just keeps on
Whirling around the sun

Birds are at the feeder
Chirping at the squirrel
Smoke is in the chimney,
I watch it drift and swirl
I can hear the springtime calling
Like the laughter of a girl
And the world just keeps on
Whirling around the sun

I wondered in my younger days
What lay beyond the hill
I wandered my wayfaring ways
But now I'm mostly still
It's just my mind that wanders
And I guess it always will
As the world just keeps on
Whirling around the sun

Cat is on the carpet,
Curled up in a sunbeam
I'm sipping at my coffee
Dancing in a daydream
I am floating, I am drifting
Like a cloud upon the jetstream
And the world just keeps on
Whirling around the sun...

I wrote this one for my mom when she was getting ready for retirement. I figured she'd never really sit still, and she hasn't, except in pretty moments like this one.

Ron Nigrini taught me a drop-C tuning which I used for this tune to give it a slightly exotic feel.
