Streetcar Named Despair

On a streetcar named
Despair....
Among the huddled masses crowded there
There stood a sweetheart with a smile to spare
And sunlight sparkled in her eyes

She was an angel in
Disguise...
It didn't take me long to realize
Among the frowning faces, heaving sighs
The daily bread, the daily mail...

I took in every last
Detail...
The way she laid her hand upon the rail
A sack of silk scarves from some rummage sale
And the smooth sheen of auburn hair

I took a moment to
Declare...
How it just made my day to see her there
Perhaps I fumbled but I didn't care
She rose, and winked

And left
me
Standing there

Oh precious moment of
Delight
Amid the endless days and sleepless nights
There stood an angel blessed with
Auburn hair

On a streetcar...
