No fear, no envy, no meanness
My heart aches this morning after watching the Dylan documentary on pbs last night.
There was Dylan in all his greatness and glory, clarity and candour, humour and humility.
There were so many moments of depth and poignancy, I can hardly stagger under the shadow of it all. So many places where the story lined up with all of our stories.
But the best moment of all was when Dylan recalled Liam Clancy's incisive words over pints of Guinness in some lower east side dive: "No fear, no envy, no meanness."
Among all the things that Dylan's been to all of us, it seems to me he's kept those words in mind. That could be the biggest achievement of all.
