Goodbye to Discovery
Dear Discovery,
I'm sitting in my home office on the first day of my brand-new life. I have as much work to do as I ever did at Discovery, and no one to pay me to do it, and on top of that the cat is driving me nuts. Every now and again I get a wave of panic: What have I done???
But then I cast my mind back a few days, to the wonderful send-off in the boardroom on the second floor. The brilliant, hilarious animated goodbye reel put together by the Interactive team. The kind words from Ken. The warm and thoughtful sentiments on the goodbye cards. The heartfelt hugs and the laughs over pints at the bar on Friday night, until they rolled me down the hill and home.
Was this last five years for real? I only have to pinch myself with my Discovery Interactive Leatherman to remember that it was. Am I equipped to move on to the next adventure? No worries- Daily Planet set me up with a gift certificate to MEC. Am I dressed for success? I can go anywhere in the world, wearing my Discovery Channel jacket, and I'll be wearing a righteousreminder of the smartest, most creative, most supportive bunch of colleagues and friends a guy could ever have had. And lookin' SHARP, to boot.
I won't be far away. We'll see lots of each other, I hope. In the meantime, from all of me, to all of you, THANKS. You've made five years in the corporate world not only bearable, but enjoyable - and you've sent me off with all the momentum I need to take on the next phase of my journey.
I'll keep you posted on how it goes. I think it's gonna be great.
Bye for now,
David.
