How to write songs (and live happily)

Someone asked me the other day how to write songs.

Here's what I said:

• Listen for your whole life.
  
• Sing or whistle or hum everywhere you go, all the time.
  
• Honour what you receive.
  
• Be open to what you find yourself giving.
  
• Lather, rinse, repeat.
