My giant paddling adventure, 2
I haven't created a blog for this journey yet, so forgive my excitedly posting updates in this space.
Today I took a dry-erase marker to a laminated map of Southern Ontario and traced out my route - Kingston to Trenton to Peterborough to Lake Simcoe to Orillia to Port Severn to Parry Sound to French River to Lake Nippissing to North Bay to Trout Lake to Mattawa River to Ottawa River to Ottawa, through the Rideau Canal to Kingston again.
Having paddled the Holland River a little bit on Sunday, I'm now considering starting and ending closer to home, by putting in at Holland Landing which is just 40 minutes from my door. From there I can paddle into Lake Simcoe, and I can paddle back out again the same way.
Using the "string method" I roughly calculated the length of my trip: 921.6 miles aroud Central Ontario, give or take.
Anyone know how many miles a day a decent flatwater paddler can put in, mostly by kayak? I'm thinking 10-12 to be conservative, but hoping I might get up to 15 or even 20 on my good days - subject to a million portages in the Trent-Severn and the Rideau of course.
Oh boy oh boy oh boy!!!!!
PS I'm looking for an acronym to call this trip... any thoughts?
